Well if that didn’t raise some kind of emotion in you, maybe you should check for a pulse.
What a race! What a day. And what a great group of people we have in our club.
Yesterday we witnessed a lot of things from our teams.
One the one hand there were teams that accomplished great things, were pumped, happy, excited, motivated and experiencing adulation.
Whilst on the other there were some that went away disappointed, pissed off and frustrated.
Motorsport brings out all of these emotions that’s for sure.
One very happy young man was William Lucas from Team Hoofhearted 99 with the fastest lap in qualifying earning him the $100 Pro Axle pole position.
The race started and the first five karts were locked together – and when we say locked together we mean it.
Up until the first pit stops these guys could not be separated. I must say, it was one of the best driving displays I have ever seen. Chris Bregonje, David Zammit, William Lucas, Mark Pickering & Daniel Paterson were at each other for fifty plus laps nose to tail. It really was the suby train and testament to the quality of racers and racing this category can produce.
All day long there were great duals, lots of emotions and never a dull moment
The happiest at the end of the day had to be the boys from Kart 40 The Dudleys – Rob Russell, Rob Metcalf and Joe Scarcella. Rob was considering giving it away earlier this year and now he’s driving like the champ he is, Joe is driving like a man possessed and Metcalf has always been quick.
After a 2nd place at The Eastern Creek 8 Hours yesterday’s win gives The Dudleys the lead in the championship.
In second place and feeling a bit disappointed was Pro-Axle 8. Drivers Bryan Freestone, Little Focker Freestone and super-sub Trent Mulholland. After Qualifying in 7th they made their way to the front but had an off track excursion late in the race costing them the opportunity to stand at the top of the podium.
Third place went to Pro-Axle 68. Leading a large portion of the race throughout the day, Dave Upston and his young guns Damian Xuereb and Matt Pescod were looking good and were rewarded with a podium finish.
Champ Class was a great battle all day with Kart 6 GSP racing taking the honours. George Papanikitas, Michael Missos and their young speedster Daniel Paterson did a fantastic job to come back from kart issues to take the class win and sixth outright. Daniel also set the fastest lap of the day with a super quick 38.845.
Thanks for attending the Pro-Axle Canberra Cup for 2017 – See you all at Lithgow.
